Frequently Asked Questions
-
What ages do you take?
We take children aged 8 - 15. We were originally planning to take 10 - 14 year olds, but we've
had several enquiries about younger and older children and, after some though, we have
decided to extend the range.
We will also consider applications from 16 year olds to come as
young volunteers for a reduced fee of £100 - this would normally be for people who have attended
previous EcoWeeks and would like to come back and see a bit more of what goes on behind the scences.
-
Are staff police checked?
Yes. Everyone working at an EcoWeek must have a current CRB or Disclosure Scotland
check. We also insist on detailed character references from a responsible person.
Finally, working at an EcoWeek is conditional on passing a residential training
course run either by EcoWeeks or by ATE, our sister organisation.
-
Can children with disabilities come to EcoWeek?
Yes! As long as one of our nice, friendly monitors can look after you in a group
of children, there shouldn't be a problem. Please get in touch and let us know more,
as it will help us plan the programme for the week with suitable modifications if
necessary. The EcoCabins are fully wheelchair accessible, and although it's a steep
climb up from the valley there will always be someone happy to push!
-
Is the food vegetarian?
Almost all the food at EcoWeek is vegetarian, and when we do serve meat or fish
there is always an alternative. We can cope with almost any genuine dietary request
(for medical, faith or other reasons).
-
Is there a swimming pool?
The nearest pool is in the
Bro
Ddyfi leisure centre in Machynlleth. We'll plan to go there at least twice in
course of each EcoWeek.
